Some of our best kept secrets in the Inland Northwest have to do with our plentiful outdoor activities. In Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, and the surrounding areas, Mother Nature provides us with some amazing opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, boating, skiing, etc. If you enjoy getting out and getting some fresh air, keep reading as I point out a few things that this great region has to offer.
The Centennial Trail
Stretching from downtown Spokane to Coeur d’Alene, this trail provides miles of paved beauty for walkers, runners, and bikers to enjoy. Many of those miles go right alongside the Spokane River and Lake CDA for a gorgeous view.
Riverside State Park
Home to the well-known suspended bridge and rock formation known as the “Bowl and Pitcher”, this park is a great place to hike, ride horses, camp, and kayak.
Mainto Park
One of Spokane’s most beautiful parks, and it is located on the South Hill. It is like several parks in one. Within Manito Park, you will find Duncan Gardens, The Rose Gardens, Japanese Gardens, and the Duck Pond. Take a stroll through the many pathways or bring a picnic basket for a peaceful lunch. So much tranquility in one location - It is a must see.
Tubbs Hill
Enjoy hiking, biking and spectacular scenery on 120 acres, which is bordered by beautiful Lake Coeur d’Alene.
Q'emlin Park
Pronounced "Ka-Mee-Lin", this paradise is located right in Post Falls, ID. It is a surprise of a park islocated in the city, but has miles of trails, with towering trees, and the Spokane River runs through a rocky canyon, creating a hiker’s oasis.
Schweitzer Mountain
With a summit elevation of 6,400 feet above sea level, this mountain has never-ending activities that could keep you busy throughout the year. In the winter, you can find the best skiing that this region has to offer, while the summer brings hiking, horseback riding, and huckleberry picking. It is definitely worth the drive.
These are just a few gems that can be found in our area. If you love the outdoors and nature, you will not run out of choices.
